Washington Nursing, Health Care, and Management Schools
Statistics from the Washington Employment Security Department show that the Evergreen State's health care industry has by far the most job vacancies than any other industry statewide. There were 4,488 unfilled Registered Nurse positions throughout the state in April--45 percent were full-time positions, more than 80 percent were permanent, and almost 30 percent had been open for 60 days or more. Both registered nurses and medical and health services managers in Washington earned median salaries well above the national average in 2006.
A range of nursing educational programs are offered by over 30 colleges and universities statewide, although associate's degrees (ADN) in nursing are the most commonly awarded in Washington. A bachelor's degree (BDN) in nursing is required to pursue a variety of specialty nursing programs including psychiatric/mental health and family practice nursing. Exploring the nursing and health care education programs in Washington will show you the many options available in training for healthcare careers.
