South Carolina Nursing and Health Care Schools
According to the South Carolina Employment Security Commission, South Carolina's health care industry is among the fastest growing industries statewide. Jobs for Registered nurses (RN), medical assistants, and medical/health services managers in the Palmetto State are growing much faster than the national average for all occupations. South Carolina's medical and health services managers earned a median salary over $70,000 in 2006, which is slightly higher than the national median salary for that occupation.
The South Carolina Board of Nursing approves Registered Nursing programs at both associate's (ADN) and bachelor's degree (BSN) levels, as well as several practical nursing programs, and RN to BSN accelerated programs. Following graduation, nurses are required to pass a national examination to obtain a South Carolina nursing license. Nursing continuing education is one of the requirements for renewing nursing licenses every two years. If nursing and health care education programs appeal to you, South Carolina should remain a promising location in which to pursue a health care career.
