Oregon Nursing and Health Care Schools
According to the Oregon Employment Department, Oregon's health care industry is booming with a surplus of jobs in several occupations, such as registered nurse (RN) and medical assistant. Currently, the average salaries for nurses in the "Beaver State" range from $45,500 for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) to $65,000 for registered nurses.
Practical and registered nurses planning to practice in Oregon must earn a certificate, associate, baccalaureate, or master's degree in nursing. They must also pass a national nursing certification examination to acquire an Oregon nursing license (OSBN).
Registered nurses are required to complete nursing continued education courses before renewing their license every two years. There are no state educational requirements for entry-level medical assistant jobs, but graduates from formal medical assisting programs tend to welcome brighter career opportunities than their less-educated counterparts.
